Women’s Equality Day Program: We Can Be the Change We Need – The Fight Continues

View our two-part, 90-minute, pre-recorded program; comment on it here or via our FaceBook page if you wish.

Part I and Part 2:  Lifting as We Climb: Black Suffragists and Our Continuing Fight for Equality in Attitude and Law (39:13)

We are focusing on women of color and white women, to render Women’s Equality Day authentically inclusive. Attention energizes – when we listen to each other we become aware. Intention transforms – choosing to act on what we learn can bring about the change we want. When working together we can be a force for fixing our society. Parts 1 and 2 are introductory and informative videos, including “Untold Stories of Black Women in the Suffrage Movement” and a Red Table Talk with Jada Pinkett Smith recorded in November 2018 with her mother, daughter, co-worker and Jane Elliott, an activist for racism awareness.

Part 3: The Panel and Conversation (1:08:54)

We asked a panel of awesome and mindful women to tell us their inspirational stories and lessons learned. The panel will advise us on how we can become the change we want and need. Our moderator Reverend Renai Collins will introduce our five panelists. After viewing, please contribute to the continuing conversation!

Opinion Letter: Elderly, homeless women removed from John Prince Park tent city

Elderly, homeless women are removed from John Prince Park tent city. “I have no family, I have nowhere to go” said Brenda 55 and Dominie 62 years old.
Palm Beach Count NOW National Organization for Women and the League of Women Voters planned a panel discussion on “Senior Women & Safety” for March 28th. It was cancelled due to Covid-19. Speakers were from the State Attorneys office and AVDA, Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse, and the Lord’s Place.
The program was to bring attention to the issue of senior women, poverty and homelessness. Women who have been underpaid all their lives which also leads to reduced Social Security. Many have outlived their resources.
The county is doing their best, but over 50% of our budget goes to the Sheriff’s department and increases yearly, even in these lean times. Instead of spending almost half a million dollars on high end opulent offices, maybe they could use this money to help these desperate women who will be living on the streets in one of the most affluent counties in Florida.

Urge the Senate to Pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act Today

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Sunday, Jacob Blake was shot at least seven times in the back by police, while three of his children watched in horror. Yesterday, the whole nation witnessed Jacob Blake Sr. cry out — “My son matters.  He’s a human being, and he matters.” Incidents like these are why Black women and men live in fear in their own country, and why we are still out in the streets demanding justice.

Police violence, structural racism, and institutional resistance to change has left Black people more afraid for their safety and less secure in their Constitutional rights. The inhumane treatment of another person of color follows the murders of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, and the recent shooting death by police of Trayford Pellerin in Lafayette, Louisiana, and countless other black lives. We must meet this moment in history and continue our calls for action until equitable justice is served.

NOW demands justice for Jacob Blake and NOW demands justice for Black lives. We call on local authorities to take swift action against the officers involved in his shooting and demonstrate to the community their ability to set up an independent, transparent review process. We need more than condolences from our leaders – we need them to act now to ensure justice and safety for Black communities, so we renew our calls for the Senate to strengthen and pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act without further delay.
