The News Literacy Project celebrated a successful National News Literacy Week last week, but we have one more action to take before we call it a wrap.

The purpose of events like News Literacy Week is to raise as much awareness as possible, so let’s not keep what we learned to ourselves! Earn your Easy A this week by sharing the news literacy tips we learned with your friends and family. We’ve made it easy by providing ready-to-share social media posts and messages.

Rebecca was in high school the first time she logged on to the internet. She got the news from the major news networks and parents’ newspaper subscriptions. She never could have imagined what the media and information landscape would look like now, decades later, for her teen. It’s a lot to navigate and one of my biggest worries as a parent, so I’m excited to dig in to a new topic for the next few weeks — news literacy.

Our kids and teens have access to an incredible amount of news and information. While this gives them great opportunities for learning, it also exposes them to bad actors and misinformation. They need to learn how to evaluate and trust their news sources, and National News Literacy Week gives us all the tools to do that.
