Red Wine & Blue:Level-up your storytelling for change
|
Facts and data matter when it comes to shaping our opinions, but our emotions drive us first, and it’s stories that really move us. What is more persuasive – hearing that 22 million people saw their health insurance premiums double when the Affordable Care Act subsidies expired, or hearing the story of your friend who had to put off a necessary medical procedure because she couldn’t afford her insurance? We’ve all seen and felt how powerful it can be to hear other people’s stories, especially when it comes to influencing and inspiring others to think differently or consider other points of view. That’s why good storytelling is necessary in our journey to making the world a better place, and we’re going to talk about how to do it! Join us as we talk with Dr. Melanie Green from the University of Buffalo. She’s an expert on narratives and stories, and how storytelling can change the way people think and behave. She has studied how stories can persuade thinking on social issues, so her insight will be invaluable! |

When I think about what has shaped my own values and made me so passionate about our work, I think about people – the people I love and the people I’ve met here who have generously shared their stories with me with trust and vulnerability. Personal stories are what make people really understand the impact of laws and policies at a deeper level, and care about it. That’s why stories are one of the most powerful tools for change. This event will help you sharpen your own storytelling skills so that you can level-up the way you talk to others about politics. Join us to learn what makes a story truly compelling and how to use personal stories to move people in ways that data alone can’t. You’ll learn how to craft narratives that connect with people emotionally, communicate your values, and inspire others to care the same way that you do. We’ll give you the practical tools and the confidence you need to influence others and make an impact. You can use these skills anywhere, whether you’re talking to a friend, mobilizing people in your community, or leading an organization. Our power is in our stories, so let’s learn together from Dr. Green and make an even bigger impact this year. |
