PBC’s Rabbi Barry Silver filed a similar lawsuit in FL where it has languished in the court system. Rabbi Silver’s memory is indeed a blessing.

Hello members and friends, sad news. Longtime reproductive rights and interfaith activist Rabbi Barry Silver has died.
An attorney, and Rabbi to Congregation L’Dor va-Dor (ldorvador.org) in Boynton Beach, for many years Barry combined his skills in the service of human rights, particularly reproductive rights. He was friends with leaders of other faiths with whom he worked for peace, and for an end to gun violence.In 2022 Barry and the Congregation sued the State of Florida for its restrictive abortion laws on the grounds of freedom of religion. Barry was known for his sense of humor and for randomly breaking into song on any occasion. Some of his songs are on the Congregation’s website. Florida: Gender, sex not the same | Letters to the editor

‘I have just learned that the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles has taken the unilateral step to ban transgender individuals from applying for licenses that reflect their gender identity.
Gender and sex are not the same thing, and they do not always match. Gender is the socially constructed binary built upon a human’s body presentation at birth, but sometimes doctors make the decision of what to do with a body that does not conform to a shallow understanding of human dynamics and realities.’

Lack of affordable child care hurts the economy: letter to the Sun Sentinel editor

I am the proud grandmother of two. But if America invested in its children, I would probably have eight by now.
These future citizens would contribute to my needed Social Security program. Instead, they chose to limit the size of their families, if having children at all, because America doesn’t really care about them. The costs of medical insurance, child care and the need for parents to save for retirement makes children a luxury for many.
Women who work at least two jobs and are homemakers are leaving the workforce primarily because of the lack of safe, affordable child care. Recent studies have shown that this places a significant financial burden on Florida’s economy with the need for these workers. The Legislature must take up this serious issue affecting our economy and our families.
