Ryan is a true Troublemaker who once flew 7,000 miles from South Korea to Kentucky to challenge a ban on “Banned Book Club.” Book bans are more than just a professional obstacle for him – his partner and her friends were imprisoned and tortured for supposedly being communist sympathizers.
Ironically, the book, which follows a college student who joins a secret reading group, has been challenged in states like Kentucky and Florida for “anti-police sentiment” and “creating dangerous anarchists in our schools,” according to one would-be banner in the Sunshine State.1
In the end, though, Hyun Sook and her friends helped make Korea a free country. That’s the inspiration we need right now!
Don’t miss your chance to hear Ryan share the incredible true story behind the book and talk about the importance of defending free expression and fighting book bans in the United States today.
RSVP now for our July Banned Book Club: “Banned Book Club” with co-author Ryan Estrada on Wednesday, July 15 at 7:30 PM ET.
