Florida, Sex Ed, and the National Threat to Religious Freedom!

Florida has become a bellwether for the country. Policies first tested there are increasingly exported nationwide, especially when it comes to public education, religious freedom, and the separation of church and state. What we are seeing around sex education in Florida is not an isolated debate about curriculum.  It is part of a broader effort by Christian nationalist movements to impose one set of religious beliefs through public schools, at the expense of pluralism, public health, and constitutional protections.

This webinar will examine how sex education in Florida has been reshaped over the past decade, how religious ideology is driving these changes, and why this represents a clear First Amendment concern. We will explore how these policies affect young people’s health and wellbeing — and why similar efforts are unfolding in states across the country.

Hosted by our Florida initiative, the program will feature leading experts in public health, education, and advocacy, including Takeata King Pang, Executive Director of the Women’s Foundation of Florida and co-founder of the Florida Healthy Youth Alliance.
