The effects of the pandemic on women and nonbinary people

From The Lily, a publication of The Washington Post: “Women’s workforce participation is down. Mental health concerns are up. The birth rate in the United States fell to its lowest level in decades. Reported instances of domestic violence in many jurisdictions increased, as those most at risk were left isolated and without resources.”

Costly and Cruel: Thousands of Florida children suffer the harm and indignity of involuntary, and often illegal, commitment to psychiatric facilities

From The Southern Poverty Law Center’s Bacardi Jackson, Managing Attorney, Children’s Rights:

“In my journey as a parent of Black children, I have had to work hard to shield them from, or at least shore them up to be prepared for, the ever-present dangers of living while Black. The adultification of Black children in particular means they often are not seen by others as worthy or in need of the same protections, leeway, nurturing or care afforded to their peers.”

First time in US history, there were 2 women seated behind President at Joint Session

From James Bonfiglio, PBC NOW Legislation Director:
Prez Biden with Harris and Pelosi
The Country and NOW witnessed an historic event at Biden’s Wednesday address to Congress. While the address itself was still just a speech, for the first time in US history, there were 2 women seated behind President Biden at a Joint Congressional Session, Vice President Kamala Harris and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.
