Rebecca was in high school the first time she logged on to the internet. She got the news from the major news networks and parents’ newspaper subscriptions. She never could have imagined what the media and information landscape would look like now, decades later, for her teen. It’s a lot to navigate and one of my biggest worries as a parent, so I’m excited to dig in to a new topic for the next few weeks — news literacy.

Our kids and teens have access to an incredible amount of news and information. While this gives them great opportunities for learning, it also exposes them to bad actors and misinformation. They need to learn how to evaluate and trust their news sources, and National News Literacy Week gives us all the tools to do that.
