So many questions have popped up about the dozens of executive orders Donald Trump has signed since January, like:
- Is my child’s university allowed to offer scholarships for people of color?
- Can my relatives from Afghanistan visit this summer?
- Am I going to have to show proof of U.S. citizenship in November’s election?
- Are people allowed to challenge the books my school’s library carries?
It seems like every time we turn around, we hear Trump has signed a terrible executive order, and then the next minute, one of those orders has been blocked by the courts.
How are we supposed to know which orders are impacting our communities? What is Trump allowed to do with the swipe of a pen – and what isn’t legal? We have invited Howard University professor Kathryn Wiley to break things down for us!
Join us Tuesday, June 17, at 7:30PM for Understanding Executive Orders with Professor Kathryn Wiley!
Here are just a few of the executive orders that Trump has signed since he began his second term:
- Banning birthright citizenship
- Creating the DOGE agencies that slashed people’s jobs and aid for those in need
- Dissolving the Department of Education
- Ending funding for public broadcasting like NPR and PBS
- Banning transgender people from the military
Every single one of these orders, and many more, are being challenged in court. And last month, the courts ruled against Trump 96% of the time!
But that doesn’t mean that these orders aren’t impacting our communities. Our schools, our neighborhoods, and our places of work are being affected every day – and we’re going to talk about how.
Kathryn Wiley will break down what executive orders actually do, how they’re being used right now (especially to target diversity efforts), and why they matter. She’ll share real-world examples and offer practical ways you can push back and take action in your own state.
RSVP now for Understanding Executive Orders and Their Impact on June 17!
See you there!
