SUMMARY:From Red Wine & Blue: REPEATING HISTORY: HOW EXTREMISTS ATTACK BLACK POLITICAL POWER
DESCRIPTION:\\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrom Reconstruction to the present day\, Black political progress has been met with organized backlash. The playbook hasn’t changed—question the candidate’s eligibility\, challenge their residency\, dispute the vote count\, and cast doubt on their legitimacy. Join us to hear from Dr. James Ford\, an award-winning educator and the Executive Director of the Center for Racial Equity in Education (CREED)\, to learn how these tactics are still being used today. By understanding this history\, we can spot patterns in real time\, call them out\, and defend democratic outcomes when Black candidates win. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSIGN UP NOW

SUMMARY:Emergency Red Wie & Blue: ICE is going after Springfield\, another vulnerable community
DESCRIPTION:It’s being reported that ICE’s next surge will be in Springfield\, Ohio – the same small town Trump and J.D. Vance viciously lied about during the 2024 presidential campaign. \nAs an Ohio mom\, after seeing everything that’s happened in Minneapolis\, Portland\, Charlotte\, and other cities\, I’m scared\, angry – and ready to fight like hell for my neighbors. \nFederal agents are expected to arrive in Springfield for a 30-day surge on Feb. 4.Springfield is home to 15\,000 Haitian immigrants — 25% of the local population — who are on “temporary protected status” because Haiti is too dangerous. They are contributing immensely to the local economy and Haiti is more dangerous than ever\, but that status expires on Feb. 4\, which is why ICE is planning to head to Springfield. \nWe’ve seen enough of these ICE surges in other cities to know that our neighbors need our love and support – and we need to act quickly to stay ahead of this. We’re coming together to support Springfield and demand that ICE stops terrorizing our communities everywhere. \nJoin us with our partners on Tuesday\, February 3 at 8:30 pm ET for our Emergency Meeting: Unite for Springfield – ICE Out of Our Communities. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe’ll talk about lessons learned from Minneapolis and other cities and how we can use those lessons to prepare. We’ll hear exactly what’s happening on the ground in Springfield right now – schools are bracing and churches are organizing – and how we can help. \nWe’ll also hear from experts about what’s happening in the courts. A U.S. district court judge could rule by February 2 to keep Temporary Protected Status for Haitians – but the Trump administration could appeal the decision or ignore it. We’ll make sense of it all. \nSpringfield\, OH is familiar to all of us because in September 2024\, while campaigning\, Donald Trump and JD Vance peddled hateful lies about the Haitian community and extremists jumped on board. City buildings\, grocery stores\, and schools received bomb threats. Kids were evacuated and sent home. Children and families were put in danger. \nNearly 5\,000 of you signed up for our emergency Unite for Springfield event then\, and in just 48 hours\, we raised $120\,000 for the Haitian Community Help and Support Center and Springfield City School District. \nWe need to take action again.  \nOn Tuesday\, we will raise awareness about what’s actually happening in Springfield and learn how we can fight back.  \nHaitian immigrants fled their home country to escape gang violence\, hunger\, and instability. It is too dangerous for them to return\, where they may be kidnapped\, tortured\, attacked\, or killed. They bravely came to Ohio to start new lives. We will bravely stand with them against this new terror. \nThe coming weeks will not be easy for our communities\, especially Springfield\, but we will look out for each other. All families deserve to be safe and whole. We’ve spread the truth about our Haitian neighbors and rejected extremists’ attacks before\, and we will do it again. \nThank you for caring\, and standing with us. There are more of us than them. \nSee you Tuesday.

SUMMARY:Indivisible Boca Raton: Strong Women Leading the Resistance
DESCRIPTION:CLICK TO RSVP\nJoin Indivisible Boca Raton at our next meeting: “Strong Women Leading the Resistance.” Women have long been at the forefront of the fight for civil rights\, free expression and bodily autonomy\, often showing up first and facing the greatest backlash. At a time when constitutional protections are being eroded\, immigration enforcement is expanding and dissent is increasingly met with intimidation\, women continue to lead the resistance on campuses\, in courtrooms and in our communities. \nWomen leading the resistance brings together leaders from academia\, student organizing and the legal system to examine what’s happening now\, what’s at stake and how women are shaping the fight for justice in this moment. Our panelists include: \nDr. Karen Leader: Professor at FAU and recognized speaker on academic freedom\, and free expression. \nMay Diamond Rojas: Organizer and campus political leader at FAU with first hand experience of the impact of national politics on student participation and civic engagement. \nCarey Haughwout: Former public defender with decades of experience in criminal defense and longtime advocate for civil liberties\, due process and accountability in policing. SUMMARY:From Red Wine & Blue: FEBRUARY BANNED BOOK CLUB: A COLOR OF LAW
DESCRIPTION:  \nWednesday\, February 11\, 7:30PM ET \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin our February Banned Book Club as we discuss The Color of Law: The Forgotten History of How Our Government Segregated America by legal scholar Richard Rothstein. This groundbreaking book challenges the widely held belief that racial segregation in the United States was the result of private choices or economic forces. Instead\, Rothstein documents how federal\, state\, and local governments actively created and enforced segregation through laws\, policies\, and court decisions\, and how those choices continue to shape inequality today. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSIGN UP NOW

SUMMARY:Florida\, Sex Ed\, and the National Threat to Religious Freedom!
DESCRIPTION:Jews for a Secular Democracy will host an important and timely webinar: “Health Under Siege: Sex Ed Erosion in Florida and Beyond!” More information and registration available HERE. \nFlorida has become a bellwether for the country. Policies first tested there are increasingly exported nationwide\, especially when it comes to public education\, religious freedom\, and the separation of church and state. What we are seeing around sex education in Florida is not an isolated debate about curriculum.  It is part of a broader effort by Christian nationalist movements to impose one set of religious beliefs through public schools\, at the expense of pluralism\, public health\, and constitutional protections. \nThis webinar will examine how sex education in Florida has been reshaped over the past decade\, how religious ideology is driving these changes\, and why this represents a clear First Amendment concern. We will explore how these policies affect young people’s health and wellbeing — and why similar efforts are unfolding in states across the country. \nHosted by our Florida initiative\, the program will feature leading experts in public health\, education\, and advocacy\, including Takeata King Pang\, Executive Director of the Women’s Foundation of Florida and co-founder of the Florida Healthy Youth Alliance. \nThis conversation is part of JFASD’s ongoing work to expose how Christian nationalism operates in real-world policy — not just rhetorically\, but in ways that concretely harm communities and undermine religious freedom for everyone. Don’t miss this one! Register HERE! \nWe hope you’ll join us and help amplify this critical conversation. \nKatie Reiter\, JFASD National Director \nLaura Rodriguez\, JFASD Florida Organizer

SUMMARY:Red Wine & Blue: Let’s organize to defend public schools
DESCRIPTION:Extremists have been attacking public schools for years – and our kids are paying the price. \nAuthoritarian politicians and their billionaire backers want to control what students learn\, decide what books belong in their libraries\, and whitewash American history. \nThese extremists are interrupting our kids’ education and scaring teachers and administrators who are just trying to make sure all students can thrive at school! \nBut who exactly is behind this movement and why are they doing it? To defeat this coordinated plan to end public education as we know it – and we CAN defeat it – we need to understand the history of the movement\, the players involved\, and their plans moving forward. \nThat’s why we’ve invited Megan Hester\, National Campaign Director at the NYU Metropolitan Center for Research on Equity and the Transformation of Schools\, to share her knowledge of these movements and how to beat them. Megan’s work helps advance honest\, equitable and fully-funded public education as a foundation for multiracial democracy. \nJoin us on Thursday\, February 12 at 7:30 PM ET for a virtual event\, Inside the Authoritarian Playbook: The Coordinated Attacks on Public Education. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDonald Trump made waves by announcing his plan to dismantle the Department of Education\, but these extremist attacks started way before Trump regained power. His destruction of federal resources for education and threats to schools for their DEI initiatives and honest curricula are all part of a coordinated and well-funded playbook that’s committed to undermining public schools. \nRed Wine & Blue has tracked and battled the anti-public education movement since we were founded. We fight book bans\, support DEI and curricula that teaches our true history\, defend the rights of LGBTQ+ youth\, and support commonsense school board members. When we organize against extremists\, from Moms for Liberty to anti-public schools Secretary of Education Linda McMahon\, we win! \nWe have to keep outperforming radical school board candidates\, flipping boards\, and successfully pushing back on book bans. In 2025 Red Wine & Blue blocked extremists running for school board\, while the vast majority of candidates we supported won. But the attacks are ongoing – and are now backed by the President of the United States. We’re not letting up. \nThis Thursday\, we’ll discuss how you can fight back by showing up at school board meetings\, mobilizing communities\, and building real collective power. \nJoin us to save public schools from the extremists who want to defund and destroy them. \nSee you there! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRSVP

SUMMARY:Red Wine & Blue: How to stay safe while standing up to ICE
DESCRIPTION:After weeks of protest\, the Department of Homeland Security has announced a pullback of its ICE operation in Minneapolis. \nWe saw the violence that ICE brought to the city\, and we saw how thousands of people stood against those agents – even in frigid temperatures and with their safety on the line. \nLet’s be clear\, though: ICE is not done terrorizing communities. The agency has quietly rented 150 new office spaces nationwide to begin new operations. They aren’t quitting\, and neither can we. \nStanding up against ICE is critical work\, Rebecca\, and Red Wine & Blue wants to help you prepare and feel safe if ICE comes to your town. Join our partners\, the ACLU and Democracy Security Project\, on Tuesday\, February 17\, at 7:30PM ET to learn how! \nRSVP for Protecting Our Communities from ICE: Staying Safe While Standing Up for our Neighbors on Tuesday at 7:30PM ET. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nICE is operating in many cities and suburbs of those cities across the country\, including Washington\, DC\, Memphis\, Nashville\, Atlanta\, Charlotte\, New Orleans\, Brownsville\, TX\, Las Vegas\, Los Angeles\, Philadelphia\, Newark\, Boston\, Chicago\, Detroit\, and Indianapolis. \nYou may have been wary to participate in ICE protests\, wondering what the ramifications may be. Could you be arrested? Lose your job? \nThe ACLU and Democracy Security Project will help you understand your legal rights\, including filming and engaging with ICE\, along with physical and digital safety strategies to protect yourself and others. \nYou’ll also hear directly from moms and community leaders who are organizing on the ground and getting results\, sharing practical lessons\, proven tactics\, and inspiration to help you take action locally. \nAnd we’ll give you ways to take part that don’t involve taking to the streets – or even leaving your house! \nWhether you stand up to ICE in the streets or from your computer\, we want you to be safe. Join us on Tuesday to find out how. \nSee you there!

SUMMARY:From Red Wine & Blue: The health crisis that should never have happened
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Janell Green Smith should be enjoying her newborn son right now. \nThe midwife and women’s health advocate devoted her life to shedding light on the Black maternal health crisis our country is facing. But she died from childbirth complications after giving birth to her own child in January. \nBlack women experience maternal mortality at three times the rate of white women in the U.S.\, a serious failure of a health care system that is supposed to protect us.1\,2 And as long as the medical industry continues to be allowed to ignore the plight of Black mothers\, all women need to come together to fight back. \nNext Tuesday\, Red Wine & Blue will be joined by experts to explain this maternal health crisis and the reforms needed to ensure safe pregnancies and births for Black women. Join us to help advocate for better health care for women! \nRSVP now for The Reality of Black Maternal Mortality in America on Tuesday\, February 24\, at 7:30PM ET! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nExperts estimate 84% of all deaths after childbirth are preventable with the right care.3 \nCurrently Black women die in childbirth in America more than pregnant people in any other high-income country – nearly 50 times more often than those in Switzerland\, and 10 times more than in the U.K.4 In fact\, Black American maternal mortality rates are comparable to those in North Korea\, Honduras\, and Grenada.5 \nBlack women are also more likely to experience postpartum depression\, preterm birth\, and poor infant health than white women.6 \nAnd as with Dr. Smith\, it doesn’t matter how much money one has or how much education – Black women are still receiving worse quality healthcare. \nA recent example is Serena Williams\, the world-famous tennis player who nearly died when her providers ignored signs of a pulmonary embolism after birth. Her doctors refused to provide treatment – even though she had a history of clots and repeatedly asked for help – until it was almost too late.7 \nOn Tuesday\, we’ll talk about the racist biases\, gaps in care\, and policies that have been consistently failing Black mothers. And we’ll share ways you can take action to protect maternal health and racial equity! \nSign up now for The Reality of Black Maternal Mortality in America on Tuesday\, February 24\, at 7:30PM ET!

SUMMARY:Here’s how we defend public schools
DESCRIPTION:You may have heard about school vouchers. But what’s framed as “more choice” for families is actually an extremist plan to drain resources – we’re talking billions of dollars – from public schools and redistribute them to private schools. \nAdvocates for vouchers claim they provide more choice to low-income or minority students. This is a lie! The vouchers often don’t provide enough money to cover tuition\, so they mostly benefit wealthy families who can already afford to send their kids to private school. \nOn top of that\, private schools aren’t open to everyone. They can deny students admission on the basis of religion or if a student is LGBTQ+\, and aren’t required to accommodate those with special needs. Kids in rural areas might not have private school options at all! \nThe consequences of this scheme can be devastating: school closures\, massive layoffs\, even fraud. \nThat’s why we’ve invited Sharon Kirsch and Beth Lewis of Save Our Schools Arizona and Damaris Allen of Families for Strong Public Schools in Florida for an important and eye-opening conversation about what has actually happened in states when voucher programs have taken hold. We will give you a hint: it has been disastrous for public schools. \nRSVP now for The Real Impact of Vouchers on Public Schools on Thursday\, February 26\, at 7:30PM ET! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur guests will share how voucher expansion has impacted schools in their states to help prepare you to organize\, advocate\, and stop vouchers in your \ncommunities. \nExtremists – including the architects of Project 2025 – are successfully undermining public schools at both the state and national level. But now we know their playbook\, and we know most people don’t support voucher programs. \nAll kids deserve high-quality public schools that accept students as they are – whether or not they have special needs\, live in rural areas\, are from low-income families\, or are LGBTQ+. That’s why funding public education is so critical. It’s also why we need to stay vigilant for stealthy attacks on schools. \nJoin us for The Real Impact of Vouchers on Public Schools to learn how to protect schools in your communities! \nSee you there! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRSVP
