DESCRIPTION:Do We Need a Miracle? \nThe Federal Courts and the Second Amendment  \nDECEMBER 5\, 2018 5-7 pm  \nFeaturing  \nHannah Shearer  \nGiffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence  \nOn January 8\, 2011\, a gunman attempted to assassinate Congresswoman Gabby Giffords while she was meeting with her constituents at a Safeway supermarket near Tucson\, Arizona. Rep. Giffords survived a critical head injury\, but six other people were killed that day. Two years later\, she started a political action committee to promote gun safety legislation. Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence has become the nation’s leading policy organization dedicated to researching\, writing\, enacting and defending laws and programs proven to save lives from gun violence. \nWe are excited to welcome Hannah Shearer\, Staff Attorney and Second Amendment Litigation Director for Giffords Law Center to speak to us about the role of the federal courts and the Second Amendment. If we manage to get legislation in Florida that puts restrictions on semi-automatic weapons or public carry of weapons\, or requires more background checks\, will these pass muster with the courts?
