SUMMARY:Thursday\, 7:30: Stop arguing and start building connections via Zoom
DESCRIPTION:It’s happened to all of us – we’re talking to a friend or neighbor about an issue we care about. We gather all sorts of facts and figures to persuade them\, but it feels like we’re talking to a brick wall. They just won’t be moved! \nWhat if I told you there’s a reason for that? \nOn Thursday\, September 25 at 7:30PM\, we’re going to talk about why these divides exist and why presenting facts doesn’t seem to work. Red Wine & Blue is welcoming a team from Mindbridge\, the nation’s leading experts on using psychology and science to change hearts and minds.  \nRSVP for How to Bridge Divides and Build Connections with Mindbridge on Thursday at 7:30PM ET! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHave you ever had a conversation where no amount of “common sense” seemed to land? Or where the more you explained\, the less the other person seemed to hear you? You’re not alone! What can feel like stubbornness is often just how our brains are wired. \nMindbridge understands that to change hearts and minds\, you first must learn to access them. \nTheir team uses neuroscience and psychology to understand people’s motivations and what drives them to believe what they do. Together we’ll explore the hidden processes within our brains\, such as cognitive biases and unconscious shortcuts\, that influence how we see the world. \nThis will be an eye-opening discussion about the ways our minds can build both walls and bridges. We will give you practical tips for building stronger connections\, asking better questions to find common ground\, and navigating those sometimes tricky conversations! \nRSVP now for How to Bridge Divides and Build Connections! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRSVP

SUMMARY:Heather Cox Richardson is coming to Red Wine & Blue
DESCRIPTION:Yesterday\, in celebrating the sixth anniversary of her daily “Letters from an American\,” our favorite historian Heather Cox Richardson wrote\, \nIf you are tired from the last six years\, you have earned the right to be. And yet you are still here\, reading\, commenting\, protesting\, articulating a new future for the nation. And I am proud to be among you. \nThis is exactly how I feel. As the Founder of Red Wine & Blue\, I am lucky to have a front row seat to witness (and stand beside!) women who are making real\, positive change in their community. Every. Single. Day. \nAnd like Heather\, I’m also closely following the anti-democratic extremism we’re seeing across the country. She’s right – it’s exhausting. It’s a daily roller coaster ride between finding hope in our RWB community and fighting off despair. \nSometimes I need to call in a friend to help me make sense of it. And what better friend – and voice of reason – does Red Wine & Blue have than Heather Cox Richardson? Which is why she is coming to visit next week! \nJoin us next Wednesday\, September 24\, at 7:30pm ET for Our Best Chance to Save Democracy w/ Heather Cox Richardson! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHeather’s joining us at an important moment. In the next six weeks\, we have the opportunity to fill thousands of school boards\, town councils\, and state legislative seats with local leaders who will stand up and fight with us. \nPeople have stood up and fought back. From librarians saying “no way” to Moms for Liberty to thousands of women joining Red Wine & Blue to tell their friends and family about the issues they care most about\, we are logging victories all the time. We need to talk about how to keep that energy going in this moment.  \nJoin us to hear from Heather as we explore how each of us can play a vital role in fighting back against extremism\, starting with where we live. You can do your part to bring big wins to your own community\, one conversation and one local race at a time. Join Heather and Red Wine & Blue to learn how! \nRSVP now for Our Best Chance to Save Democracy w/ Heather Cox Richardson!

SUMMARY:LET'S TALK ABOUT AUTISM: FACTS VS. MYTHS
DESCRIPTION:NEW PODCAST ALERT! From Red Wine & Blue: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNow that we all have a little better handle on why the news is so crazy\, there’s another pressing question to answer: how can we make a difference without losing our shit? So in that spirit\, we’ve launched a brand-new pod that’s simply called “How To Not Lose Your Sh!t.” It’ll be hosted by Katie Paris\, the founder of Red Wine & Blue\, along with LaFonda Cousin\, our Chief People Officer\, yoga teacher\, and wellness expert. We’re so excited about this\, and you can grab a sneak peek right now! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThere’s no shortage of myths and misinformation about autism and too often false information shapes how people think\, talk\, and even make policies that impact individuals with autism. Join us for this Ask Me Anything event where we will hear directly from individuals with autism and parents of autistic children as they share personal experiences\, debunk common misconceptions\, and discuss what true inclusion and support looks like.  Whether you’re looking to better understand autism\, support someone you love\, or push back against harmful narratives\, this is your chance to replace stigma with understanding and truth. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSIGN UP NOW

SUMMARY:Stacey Abrams: Taking Back Our Power in 2025
DESCRIPTION:Brought to us by Katie @ Red Wine & Blue:  “I was so excited to meet this grassroots force behind Fair Fight and New Georgia Project\, which together registered more than 1 million new voters between the 2018 and 2020 elections. And when I told her about the new organization I started\, Red Wine & Blue\, she was really excited to hear about it! \nShe has taken on the political establishment\, extremist legislators\, and Donald Trump\, and she’s still pushing forward. And even in the face of growing threats\, she never\, ever gives up. We need that kind of energy in our lives now! \nOn Thursday\, October 2 at 7:00PM ET\, we’re going to talk to Stacey about where we are as a country\, what’s at stake for all of us\, and how we can fight back. This is a conversation about how we win and how we build the power we need at every level of government\, and you don’t want to miss it! \nRSVP for Taking Back our Power in 2025 w/ Stacey Abrams on October 2 at 7:00PM ET! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nUntil Stacey took the streets beginning in 2013\, two-thirds of voters in Georgia were white – even though white people make up a little less than half the population.1 \nThe Democratic party at the time wanted to double down on white\, middle-of-the road voters to wrest the state away from the extremists running it.2 \nStacey knew they were wrong – there was a growing population of Black and Brown residents in Georgia who wanted better education\, better pay\, and a better way of life. She knew if she could get them to vote\, they could make a huge difference. And when the establishment said no\, she created her own voter registration organizations. \nBeing from Georgia myself\, I’m so excited about how Stacey has transformed the state\, eventually helping to send two Democrats to the U.S Senate in 2020. Now she is known nationwide as one of the most respected organizers in the country. \nAs a grassroots women’s organization\, Red Wine & Blue knows what it’s like to be told no at every turn. But we have to push forward anyway\, and Stacey is the perfect person to show us the way. \nJoin Red Wine & Blue and Stacey Abrams to talk about why local organizing matters\, how we build real power\, and the steps we must take to protect our future!” \nRSVP for Taking Back our Power in 2025 w/ Stacey Abrams!

SUMMARY:From Red Wine & Blue: Join banned book authors
DESCRIPTION:Book bans aren’t in the news like they used to be\, and the number of book bans documented by PEN America this school year has dropped 40% from last year.1 \nBut that doesn’t mean we’ve won the battle for the freedom to read. \nPEN America has still documented nearly 7\,000 book bans this year. And worse\, extremist groups like Moms for Liberty have turned to under-the-radar methods to stop kids from reading. \nThis week is Banned Books Week\, and we’re kicking off our celebration tomorrow night by talking to PEN America and authors whose books have been taken off the shelves! We’ll explore the current state of book banning\, the new playbook of censorship\, and the real impact on writers and readers alike. Most importantly\, we’ll learn how to join the fight against book bans and protect the freedom to read. \nJoin us tomorrow night at 7:00PM ET for The Current State of Book Bans and How to Fight Back. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe trend of book bans received a big boost this year from the Trump administration\, whose executive orders including “Ending Radical Indoctrination in K-12 Schooling\,” “Defending Women From Gender Ideology Extremism\,” and “Ending Radical And Wasteful Government DEI Programs And Preferencing” were used as justification for bans in Department of Defense schools and school districts nationwide.2 \nDistricts are fearing government retaliation for allowing certain books in the schools to the point where they are preemptively removing books before they have the chance to be challenged. \nTomorrow\, we’ll talk about these and other kinds of “shadow bans\,” who is being banned (Stephen King topped the list this year)\, and how banning books harms our kids’ education. And we’ll talk about how we can fight back! \nLet’s come together for the right to read! RSVP for our Banned Books Week event now. \nSee you there!

DESCRIPTION:\\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAttacks on public education are escalating but the impacts are not being felt equally by all students. Cuts to funding and restrictive new policies are falling hardest on Black and brown students\, deepening long-standing inequities in our schools. Join us to learn about these disparities from the educational experts at EdTrust as we explore how current education policies and funding cuts disproportionately harm students of color. We’ll explore the root causes of chronic absenteeism\, the bigger picture of inequities in education\, and what we can do to push back and ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSIGN UP NOW

Born in the streets\, carried by millions in chants and on posters\, it echoes from city blocks to rural town squares\, uniting people across this country to fight dictatorship together. \nThe president thinks his rule is absolute. But in America\, we don’t have kings\, and we won’t back down against chaos\, corruption\, and cruelty. Grow our movement and join us. \nA core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind\, including those legally permitted\, should not be brought to events.

SUMMARY:From Red Wine & Blue: The kids are not all right
DESCRIPTION:We’re in anxious times\, and it’s not just adults who feel like they’re constantly on the verge of a panic attack. Our kids are facing a mental health crisis\, too. \nThe sad reality is that young people today face immense pressure\, from the threat of climate change and gun violence to the long-term impact of COVID and untreated trauma. \nWatching a kid struggle with their mental health – be it silent tears\, intrusive thoughts\, acting out in school or full on physical illness – can leave a parent or teacher paralyzed and heartbroken\, but that doesn’t mean there is nothing we can do. \nFortunately\, there are experts out there who can help us understand what families\, schools\, and communities can do to support the young people in our lives\, and on Tuesday\, we’re going to talk about it.   \nCan you join us on Tuesday\, October 21 at 7:30PM ET to hear psychiatrist Dr. Mathilde Ross share her wisdom with the Red Wine & Blue community? \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhile the conversation about mental health has come a long way since we were kids\, it can feel like the dangers of psychological problems have only increased. \nWhile anxiety is a natural human response\, it can be hard to know the difference between what’s age-appropriate and normal\, and what’s potentially alarming. And the media coverage of the teen mental health crisis isn’t helping anyone feel more prepared! \nA recent study by the CDC found that 11% of children ages 3-17 had current\, diagnosed anxiety\, while 20% of 12-17 year-olds reported regularly feeling symptoms of anxiety. \nThese statistics are real and alarming\, but they can also lead us to react in unhelpful ways. Dr. Ross will break down the facts and leave us with the tools we need to build more supportive communities for all kids. \nJoin us to hear from Dr. Ross and help build a strong foundation of support for the mental health of young people in your community.
