SUMMARY:From Red Wine & Blue: The kids are not all right
DESCRIPTION:We’re in anxious times\, and it’s not just adults who feel like they’re constantly on the verge of a panic attack. Our kids are facing a mental health crisis\, too. \nThe sad reality is that young people today face immense pressure\, from the threat of climate change and gun violence to the long-term impact of COVID and untreated trauma. \nWatching a kid struggle with their mental health – be it silent tears\, intrusive thoughts\, acting out in school or full on physical illness – can leave a parent or teacher paralyzed and heartbroken\, but that doesn’t mean there is nothing we can do. \nFortunately\, there are experts out there who can help us understand what families\, schools\, and communities can do to support the young people in our lives\, and on Tuesday\, we’re going to talk about it.   \nCan you join us on Tuesday\, October 21 at 7:30PM ET to hear psychiatrist Dr. Mathilde Ross share her wisdom with the Red Wine & Blue community? \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhile the conversation about mental health has come a long way since we were kids\, it can feel like the dangers of psychological problems have only increased. \nWhile anxiety is a natural human response\, it can be hard to know the difference between what’s age-appropriate and normal\, and what’s potentially alarming. And the media coverage of the teen mental health crisis isn’t helping anyone feel more prepared! \nA recent study by the CDC found that 11% of children ages 3-17 had current\, diagnosed anxiety\, while 20% of 12-17 year-olds reported regularly feeling symptoms of anxiety. \nThese statistics are real and alarming\, but they can also lead us to react in unhelpful ways. Dr. Ross will break down the facts and leave us with the tools we need to build more supportive communities for all kids. \nJoin us to hear from Dr. Ross and help build a strong foundation of support for the mental health of young people in your community.
